Esplanade Zagreb Hotel 5*

The hotel was opened in 1925 as a refuge for passengers from the Orient Express. It is an architectural gem and the hotel building is considered a national heritage. It was completely renovated in 2004.

The Esplanade is the most iconic and prestigious hotel in Zagreb, where art deco glamor meets modern conveniences. It is surrounded by historic buildings, a park with a fountain, a historic railway station, an underground shopping center and a botanical garden. It is visited by royal families, famous artists and athletes. So that you know how important this place is when you stay in it, in addition to you, e.g. Elisabeth Taylor, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Tina Turner, David Backham, Cristiano Ronaldo, Depeche Mode, Shakira, Sting, Orlando Bloom have stayed here, Prince Albert of Monaco, the King and Queen of Sweden, the Prince and Princess of Japan, Princess Anne of Great Britain, the Emir of Qatar, several world presidents and many, many more. The hotel is proud of many awards in the field of design, impeccable service and great food. The hotel's oleander terrace is also famous, various important social and corporate events are held here. The hotel's fine dining restaurant Zinfandel is one of the best in Croatia. The hotel also has several conference rooms of various sizes for corporate and social events. The largest of them is the oval Ballroom, in which, for example, balls or fashion shows are held. You can also visit the hotel with your pet dog, who will be treated royally.

You will already be amazed by the entrance hall. Rather, you feel that you are somewhere in a theater or opera house - marble, gold, metal. At the reception you will be offered a welcome drink (champagne), you will receive room cards, and the porter will bring your luggage. I really liked that there were vases of fresh flowers all around the hotel. The concierge will take care of your every wish.

Rooms

Hotel Esplanade offers a total of 208 spacious rooms, beautifully furnished, which reflect the history of the building, but at the same time have all the amenities of a modern luxury hotel. All rooms have air conditioning, TV, super fast wifi, minibar, and spectacular marble bathrooms with heated floors and mirrors. You can choose from superior and deluxe room types, deluxe suites or the most prestigious presidential Esplanade suite.

I will describe in detail our corner room 516 - Deluxe suite, there are only 13 of them in the entire hotel. These rooms are on the upper floors with amazing views of the city. They are really spacious. You enter the living room, where there is a couch, a coffee table, a TV, a minibar (including snacks), a wardrobe and a Nespresso capsule coffee machine. Fresh flowers, a bowl of fruit, a bottle of wine, water and sweets were arranged on the table as a very luxurious welcome snack. There was also a personalized letter from the hotel manager. The bedroom was really big. Comfortable double bed with soft pillows and goose down duvets. There is also a TV (I forgot to mention that when I entered the room, my name was flashed on the TV monitors with a few welcome sentences). In the bedroom there is a desk and a coffee table with an armchair, and fresh flowers and magazines on it. The en suite marble bathroom is also respectable in size. You can take a bath in the bathtub or take a shower in the shower, there are two sinks, a large mirror, including a magnifying one, luxury hotel cosmetics from L'Occitane (hand soap, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion), vanity kit , hairdryer. The toilet is separated by a separate door. In the bedroom there is another wardrobe with a safe, trouser press, bathrobes and slippers, which you probably won't need, the rooms have a pleasant carpet). Blackout curtains and double glazed windows. The hotel is well soundproofed, I didn't hear any neighbors or anyone in the corridor. The room was cleaned twice a day and during the afternoon cleaning (or making the bed) they brought you a chocolate praline so that you have sweet dreams. Well, is it possible not to love this hotel?

Restaurants

Zinfandel

A top fine dining restaurant, considered the best Croatian restaurant, where chef Ana Grgic promises a culinary journey with a modern take on traditional Croatian cuisine. And it is said that they have the best štrukli in town (štrukli - a local specialty around Zagreb, dough with various fillings, both salty and sweet, and can be boiled or baked).

Breakfast is also served in these premises in the morning. In addition to the buffet bar, you can order anything from the menu on request - omelettes, eggs (from local farms) in several ways, such as benedict, avocado toast, French toast, pancakes, etc. In the buffet bar you can find salami, ham, smoked salmon, cheeses, fruit, vegetables, muesli, yogurts, sweet bar, selection of pastries (gluten-free on request), several types of milk (including plant-based), jams (also for diabetics), peanut butter, undiluted juices (fresh, sparkling wine and coffee on request) , selection of teas, water, smoothies. So my standard of quality breakfast met :) If you are my regular reader, you know that I demand fresh juice, champagne, smoked salmon, fresh fruit and good coffee, as a base + the rest :) Butter, jams and honey are already prepared on each table. The food has a HALAL certificate.

Le Bistro

Known for its celebration of seasonal local produce and traditional favourites, it combines Croatian cuisine with Parisian traditions. Here you can find lighter meals, snacks, salads, soups or desserts.

Esplanade 1925 Lounge & Coctail Bar

A stylish art deco lounge and cocktail bar run by Croatia's number 1 mixologist. Various business meetings are often held here.

Oleander terrace

A popular place to eat with a champagne bar and a stunning view of the fountain park.

Wellness

Health Club, where you can enjoy a sauna (women's and men's are separate), you can work out in a very well-equipped gym, visit a beauty salon or book a massage.

My rating - 10/10

There is no other way here. Perfect service, beautiful premises, great breakfast, central location, luxurious welcome snacks and chocolate before sleep...no more could be asked for!
