Palace Kamieniec

Location

The palace or, if you prefer, a castle or chateau, is located in the fields next to the village of Kamieniec in Poland. The nearest larger Polish cities are Klodzko or Polanica-Zdroj, or the well-known spa town of Kudowa Zdroj. The Czech border is about 35 km from Kamieniec, the nearest Czech town is Náchod. But it is not far from cities such as Broumov, Hronov, Červený Kostelec, Nové Město nad Metují, Jaroměř, Dvůr Králové and from the bigger cities of Hradec Králové or Pardubice.

Parking is free right next to the castle. When the weather is nice, you can walk in the castle gardens or in the surrounding groves and fields, there is an observation tower nearby. About 2 km from the castle you can ride a horse or enjoy alpacas. Or go to a gold mine or to a spa town. I will describe tips for trips below.

About the palace

A stylish 18th century country house that fell into ruin over time, but has been restored to its former glory thanks to the dedication of its current owners. The idyllic atmosphere of this Gustavian-style home is evident as soon as you step inside. On the ground floor there is a set of representative rooms arranged in an enfilade. The Sideboard Room is a place for meetings and lavish receptions. Historical maps of the Klodzko County, donated by Baron von Seherr-Thoss, a descendant of the former owners, hang in the library.

It is a quiet place where you can fully enjoy the surrounding nature, peace, relaxation, stylish castle accommodation and, last but not least, enjoy great food. The castle is really romantic and is a frequent place for wedding ceremonies and banquets. But it is also used for other family or company events, whether for employees or clients. You can go here just for the weekend. I recommend following the château's website, as tasting dinners or various discounted events are held here for various occasions, such as: picnics, Easter, Valentine's Day, Christmas or a romantic stays.

In addition to accommodation, you will also find relaxation areas where you can read or play chess or just enjoy the stylish castle atmosphere. Water is waiting for you in the rooms upon arrival. You can have coffee, tea, water or other refreshments on the floor where there is a self-service seating area. Such seating is available in both accommodation buildings.

You can also view the gallery in which you will find pictures of the castle in the style of - As time goes by, where there are original period photographs of the former owners, how the castle looked like a ruin before the reconstruction and how it looks today. There is also a greenhouse in the area, in which the local gardener grows herbs and plants for the castle park. And, of course, the garden and drop-off point with a beautiful view.

Accommodation

The accommodation is divided into two parts - the castle building and the outbuilding from the former farm. The reception, sauna and stylish castle premises are located in the castle building. The restaurant, museum, extra room and other castle rooms are located in the building next door. There are a total of 17 rooms, a complete list of which can be found on the chateau's website.

From my own experience, I recommend room No. 1 called Apartment De Luxe Suite with King size bed. I had the opportunity to visit almost all the rooms and they are all beautiful, each one is a little different, but no. 1 can only be one :) Really big, 40 m2, with three windows, it is well lit, with a view of the gardens and the mountains, on the 1st floor. Original wooden floors. In addition to a very comfortable bed, there is also a sofa and 2 castle-style armchairs with a coffee table. A nice surprise awaited us on it - a bowl of fruit, prosecco and a personal message. I love these little things that always delight and take the accommodation to another level. You will also find a desk, a wardrobe and a chest of drawers with a TV. Wifi is a matter of course. I was attracted by the castle's crystal chandeliers and the canopy on the wall. Everything is really very stylish and you will feel like the lady (lord) of the castle here. The bathroom is also large. In addition to the shower, there is also a free-standing bathtub in a historical appearance. I think it's the only room with a bath. In the bathroom, in addition to soft towels, you will find bath foam, hand soap, shower gel with shampoo and body lotion, and a hairdryer.

Restaurant

Be sure to visit the castle restaurant (the current menu can be found on the hotel's website), where you can have lunch or dinner in addition to breakfast. The restaurant is in stylish premises with brick vaults and you can enjoy fine dining here. We were here at the time of St. Valentine's Day and we tasted the Valentine's Day tasting menu with wine pairing. The food was really exclusive, the wine excellent. Only for my taste, the portions were too big, by the 4th course I had enough, and two more came next. They wanted to destroy us, but we didn't give in! :) The restaurant staff is incredibly nice and I have to appreciate that they printed the tasting menu on the table for us in Czech, even though they don't usually have menus in Czech, so I applaud! These are exactly the little things that can make a great hotel stand out from other great hotels.

A special tasting menu is usually held for some special occasion, I recommend following the hotel's website, be sure not to miss it.

Breakfast is buffet style, tea and coffee are served. Of course, you will find hot and cold cuisine here, especially from local sources. Absolutely, absolutely!!! their homemade bread is unreal. Inside, light and fluffy like a cloud, the crust is totally crispy, I have probably never eaten better bread. Here you will also find cereals, homemade jams and spreads, homemade honey (own beekeeping), salami, cheeses, sausages, eggs, fruit, vegetables, salads, yogurts, sweet pastries and more.

If you want true romance, you can order a picnic or lunch or dinner in the hotel garden. Or lie on a deckchair with a book.

Wellness

The hotel has a sauna and a space for massages, which can be ordered at the reception.

Tips for trips

Hiking, walking and bike tours

The castle is in the fields, so it's an ideal place to take nature walks or take your bikes with you and ride around. Mountain hikers can visit the Śnieżnik massif (1423 m above sea level) with an observation tower. Table Mountain National Park is definitely worth a visit. There are over 200 km of single tracks of varying difficulty prepared for cyclists, you can explore them at singletrackglacensis.com. If you like spa towns, then visit Polanica-Zdroj or Kudowa-Zdroj. Or you can take a day trip to historic Wroclaw.

Bear Cave (Jaskinia niedzwiedzia)

It is 46 km and 55 minutes from the castle. The most beautiful stalactite caves in Poland. The corridors are almost 5 km long and up to 100 m deep. In addition to stalactites, you will also see the bones of animals from the Ice Age. Only a limited number of visitors can visit the cave, so it is better to buy tickets online so that you are not told on the spot that they will no longer take you. It's 6 degrees in the caves, so dress well.

Gold mine in Zlaty Stok (Kopalnia Złota w Złotym Stoku)

We visited it on the way home towards Ostrava. It is 30 km from the castle. Please don't steal the gold rocks in the minecarts okay? They are fakes! :) Nevertheless, they seem to lose the stones :) I would consider visiting here with small children. The first half of the tour is a lot of talking (in Polish) and the children were quite bored there (especially the Czech ones), you only ride the mine train for a while at the end. The first half of the tour starts right in the area, then you walk outside, you go uphill for at least 10 minutes and then you enter the next part of the mine, where you can admire the waterfall, you go down several floors of stairs. If you have a problem with movement, I definitely do not recommend visiting. Also have suitable shoes, it is often wet in the mine. We bought tickets on the spot, you can pay by card and you can buy a combo ticket with a visit to other campuses. I didn't really like that the groups are very numerous and the corridors are narrow, so when the guide says something, only those standing around him can hear him, those in the back are unlucky.

Klodzko

A historical town 10 km from the castle. About 26 thousand inhabitants live here. The dominant feature of the city is the fortress with a system of underground passages. Here you can visit the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary from the 14th century, the Baroque fortress on Hradní vrch from the 17th century, the Church of St. Vojtěch and St. George from the 13th century with a monastery, the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary with a monastery, a Gothic bridge from the 14th century, the Lion's Fountain, the town hall, the Kladské Land Museum, Minieuroland (amusement park with miniatures of important world historical monuments) and others.

Ski resort Zieleniec

Do you like skiing? Visit the Zieleniec ski resort (Zieleniec Sport Arena, less than 30 km and 30 minutes). You can ride on 23 km of slopes of varying difficulty, the longest is almost 3 km. Most slopes also have artificial lighting.

My recommendation

I recommend the castle especially to couples who want to enjoy romance and good food. Children would probably be bored here, unless you go on trips or walks with them, but most of the guests probably come here mainly to enjoy the peace. For me, for families with children, accommodation in spacious apartments called Lawenda apartamenty boutique in the town of Kudowa Zdroj is definitely better, they belong to the same owners and I also visited them, so I have a comparison, click on the name and read a detailed review.

A special tasting menu is usually held for some special occasion, I recommend following the hotel's website, be sure not to miss it. And if the castle is not far away, it is certainly worth going here for a nice dinner for your special occasion. However, it would be a real shame to miss out on this stylish accommodation!

Well, what do you think, is the castle worth a visit? You should have something to do and discover there even for a week.

My rating - 10/10

Many thanks to the owners of this beautiful castle for their care and willingness during our visit. The owner took the time even on the weekend to show and introduce the whole castle to us, we really appreciate it. And all the little details that just delight you because you don't expect them make this castle an unforgettable place!
